Tribute Story makes short films from a family’s photos, videos and memories. This page says what we collect, why, who helps us, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it.

“We” means Asaf David, who runs Tribute Story as an individual in Israel. There is no company. We decide how your data is used, which makes us the controller under Israeli privacy law.

Write to us at [email protected]. That is the fastest way to reach us and the address to use for anything in this policy. If you need a postal address, ask and we will give you one.

What we collect

Your account. Your name and email address, from Google when you sign in. Google is the only way to sign in. We do not see or store your Google password.

What you give us to make a film. The photos, videos and songs you upload or import, your answers in the setup chat, the greeting and notes you write, the names you give the people in your photos, and the changes you ask for.

What we make from it. Written descriptions of each photo, the story plan, the music, animated clips of some photos when a film uses them, and the finished film.

Photo dates. We read the date a photo was taken from the file, to put your photos in order. That is the only thing we take out of a photo’s hidden data. We never read where a photo was taken. Your photo is stored exactly as you sent it, so anything else your camera wrote into the file stays inside your own file and is not used.

Payment. Freemius takes your payment. We receive a record that you paid and for which film. We never see or store your card details.

What we do not collect. We do not use face recognition, and we do not store anything measured from a face. You tell us who is in a photo by sorting your own photos; we store the names you type. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

Why we use it

• To make your film, and to let you review and change it.
• To email you when your film needs you, when it is ready, and before we delete it.
• To take payment for a film.
• To stop abuse: limits on how much one account can upload and ask for, and the ability to stop a film when someone reports it.
• To keep a record of what each film cost us to make.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your photos to advertise, and we do not use them to train AI models.

Who helps us make your film

These companies process your data for us, only to make and deliver your film. All of them are in the United States. We keep everything in one US region.

If we add or change a company on this list, we update this page first.

Google Photos

If you choose to import from Google Photos, Google shows you its own picker and you choose the photos. We only ever receive the photos you pick. We cannot see the rest of your library.

To do this, our server keeps a permission from Google that lets us download the photos you pick. It stays until you revoke it in your Google account (myaccount.google.com, under third-party connections) or delete your account. Deleting your account revokes it at Google.

Tribute Story’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use photos from Google Photos only to make the film you are making, the same way as a photo you upload. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell them, we do not use them to train AI models, and no person at Tribute Story looks at them except as described under “Who at Tribute Story can see your film” below.

How long we keep it

• A finished film, paid for or finished free, with its photos and clips: 6 months from the day the film was ready. We email you 30 days before we delete it, so you can download it. There is no extension.
• Working files of a finished film: deleted 30 days after the film is ready. If you reopen the film, we rebuild them.
• A film you never finished or paid for: we email you after 30 days without activity, and delete it at 60 days.
• Photos in your library that are in no film: deleted with your last film.
• Nothing is deleted without an email to you 30 days before.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

• Download your data. “Download my data” in your profile menu gives you one file with everything we hold about you, with links to your photos, videos and films. The links work for one day. Ask again for fresh ones.
• Delete your account. This deletes every film you own and everything in it, your photo library, your uploaded songs, your Google Photos permission, and your sign-in record. You cannot delete your account while a film is being made; wait for it to finish.
• Correct your data. Your name and email come from Google. Everything about a film can be edited in the film.
• Ask us anything about your data at [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.

What we keep after you delete your account, and why:

• The cost record of each film: the film’s id and what it cost us. No photos, names or text.
• Usage counts that enforce our limits, by id only.
• If a film or account was stopped after a report: the record that it was stopped.
• While sign-up is by invitation: your email on our invite list, until we remove it on request.
• For two hours after the delete, your account id, so a sign-in still open in a browser cannot recreate the account.

Wherever you live, these rights are yours. Some countries and US states give people extra rights over their data. Rather than list them, we give everybody the same thing: ask us to see it, correct it, export it or delete it, and we will, within 30 days. Nothing in this policy takes away a right you have under the law where you live.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have.

Photos of other people, and of children

A tribute film is mostly photos of other people, often of children. Before we make your film, you confirm that you have the right to use the photos, videos and music in it. Our terms say more.

We do not knowingly let children use Tribute Story. You must be 18 or older to have an account.

Reporting a film

If a film uses your photo without your agreement, or shows something illegal, write to [email protected]. We can stop a film, or suspend an account, without deleting anything, so the report can be checked. Where the law requires us to report illegal content, we do.

Who at Tribute Story can see your film

Our own tools show a film’s name, how far along it is, what it cost us to make, and any error. They do not show your photos, your videos, your greeting or the film itself. Nobody here can open your project the way you can.

We look at a film’s contents only to answer a report or a request from you.

Security

Your files are stored privately. Every photo, video and film is served only through a link signed for your account, which expires. Our servers talk to each other and to you over encrypted connections.

Cookies and browser storage

We set no cookies. Your browser keeps three small things for us: your sign-in session, a note that you have seen the tutorial, and an unfinished Google Photos pick so a page refresh does not lose it. Nothing else, and nothing from other companies.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data we already hold, we email you before it takes effect.
